De Familie

produces documentaries for theatre and television, documentary and drama series for television and projects for third parties. The subjects of our productions vary from members of The Dutch Royal Family to war veterans, portraits of well-known Dutch artists, the lives of anxiety patients or discovering the myths and mysteries of Central and Eastern Europe. The productions made by De Familie deal with hope, desire and ordinary people. Observation and everyday life are keywords in our productions.

De Familie was founded in 2003 by director / producer Michiel van Erp and producer / researcher Monique Busman. Under their leadership, and in collaboration with several Dutch broadcasters, De Familie produced the documentaries Fear (Angst), A Funfair Behind the Dikes (Pretpark Nederland), Man Alone (Moederziel), With Love for Him (Liefde voor de Heer), Stuck (File) and Sylvia Kristel, Naked (Sylvia Kristel, Naakt), among many other productions.

In 2009 De Familie finished a documentary about photographer Erwin Olaf, (Erwin Olaf: On Beauty and Fall) which has premiered at the Dutch Film Festival. Recently De Familie finished a documentary on namesakes of the Dutch queen Beatrix (Beatrix, Majesty) and a portrait of the eccentric gay protestant minister Klaas Vos. At the moment De Familie is working on a documentary about the realization of the Dutch National History Museum. We are also working on the documentary series The Magic of Science: seven documentaries (directors include Aliona van der Horst, John Appel and Walter Stokman among others) about well respected scientists, who are members of The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. This series will premiere at the Dutch Film Festival 2010 and will be broadcasted starting November 7th 2010. In Eastwards! (Oostwaarts!) Dutch writer Jaap Scholten travels through several Central and Eastern European countries. This series will be broadcasted starting November 21st 2010.
